The Somerset County Sherriff's office says 36-year-old Amanda Carter was heading south on Fredericks Corner Road on Friday night when she failed to stop at the intersection with Route 2 and drove directly in front of the school bus. Both she and her 3-year-old son, Mark Schinzel, died at the scene.

The bus from Livermore Falls was carrying students back from a school function. No one on the bus was hurt.
