Classic Maine Commercials from the ‘90’s
Marden’s
The Marden’s Lady is Mainer and comedienne Birdie Googins. She was the face of the store for years. She had a heavy Maine accent in every ad. The catchphrases really caught on like “I should’ve bought it when I saw it at Marden’s” You still hear people sing that jingle today.
FunTown
Funtown had classic Maine TV commercials. The ads started when the weather was getting nicer and continued all Summer. Their jingle “Funtown, Funtown, Funtown…U.S.A.” was everywhere in the 1990’s. Plus, the amusement park was cool and a lot of fun.

Humpty Dumpty
Humpty Dumpty potato chips were started in Scarborough, Maine in 1947. They’ve been around for a long time because their chips are delicious and they know how to market. Their TV ads in the ‘90’s were good too.
LaVerdiere’s
LaVerdiere’s Super Drug Stores were everywhere back in the day. They were as Maine as any business. Around 1994, Rite Aid bought out the stores and spread across the state. LaVerdiere’s commercials are still available on the internet.

Jolly John
Jolly John has to be one of the most recognizable ads on TV. Jolly John Pulisfer embodied Maine with his accent, jubilation and crazy antics. He was there to sell cars and had the classic catch phrase “I’m not jolly unless you’re happy.” He knew the value of showmanship and brought it to TVs all over the state. If you watched TV in the 1990’s in Maine, you saw Jolly John.
Maine Characters
Everything about these Maine commercials from the 1990’s worked - from over the top characters, local businesses that were good, and of course the Maine accents. It’s great to have them preserved on the internet.
