The adult triathlon, Tri Aroostook, is scheduled for June, 29 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Tri Aroostook is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Athletes will swim 525 yards, bike 10.25 miles to the south of Presque Isle and run 3.1 miles.

Jonathan Kelly, Tri Aroostook director, said that he was excited about the team of people who are working together on putting this event. ‘You don’t need to be a pro to participate,’ Kelly said. ‘Anyone who is fit and has done a little bit of training will have a good time.’

For kids, between the ages of 7 and 13, READY... Set... Let’s Go! Youth Triathlon offers an excellent opportunity to come out and participate. The youth triathlon returns for a second year. The event is scheduled for September 8, 2013. To help kids prepare for the triathlon, event sponsors will have several training sessions.

‘We have scheduled several training sessions between March and August in Presque Isle and Houlton to help kids get ready for the triathlon,’ said Reegan Brown, event director and community education specialist with Healthy Aroostook. ‘ Both beginners and more experienced youth athletes can join us for swimming, yoga, Zumba, running, and biking.’

If you are interested in participating both events are taking applications online. If you are an adult and would like to sign up visit Tri Aroostook website. For the youth triathlon visit the READY... Set... Let’s Go! Youth Triathlon website.
