The 64-year-old driver lost control of her car on Highway 161 around 2:45 p.m., according to CIMT-TV. The car went off the road, down a rocky embankment, and came to a stop in the river.

The woman managed to get out through the window of the car. The vehicle, however, remained stuck in more than 4 feet (1.2 meters) of water.

The RCMP and firefighters were dispatched to clear the scene.  Route 161 in Clair was closed to traffic for about half an hour while a wrecker service worked to  remove the vehicle from the water.

The woman was not injured.  Police say a distraction is the cause of the accident.
