The unidentified woman’s body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for autopsy and identification, according to Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland.

The body was found by a passing motorist about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.  A team of State Police detectives, troopers and evidence technicians was at the site all day, McCausland said.

Police have also seized a 2017 black Chevrolet Impala, involved in a crash Tuesday evening at the intersection of Routes 9 and 193, about 15 miles from where the body was found. Investigators believe the car is connected to the woman.

Detectives are asking anyone who traveled in the area Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning who saw anything along Routes 9 or 193 that might be related to the investigation to call State Police in Bangor at (207) 973-3700.
