A woman was seriously injured Monday night after an explosion and fire at a residence in Friendship.

Explosion and Fire at Single-Family Home

The Friendship Fire Department and additional departments responded to the single-family home around 9:44 pm at 36 N. Harbor Cemetery Lane after a 911 call.

Woman Outside Home with Serious Injuries

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said an adult female was found outside her home with serious and life-threatening injuries.

Flown by Helicopter to Hospital

The woman was treated at the scene by Waldoboro Rescue and transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

State Fire Marshal’s Investigating

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the site as part of the fire investigation.

Explosion at Home with No Electricity

Officials said evidence pointed to an explosion. The home did not have electricity and generators were in use as a power supply. A fireplace was being used to heat the home.

Propane Tanks Located In and Around Residence

“Propane gas was being used for cooking purposes, and several propane cylinders of varying sizes were located in and around the residence,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Fire Not Considered Suspicious with Ongoing Investigation

The incident is not considered suspicious at this time, said Moss. The investigation is ongoing.
