
Woman Pleads Guilty to Illegally Entering United States in Maine
A 29-year-old woman pleaded guilty in Maine to illegally entering the United States after a prior removal.
Passenger in Vehicle Stopped on I-95
Tamara Iveth Shiguano-Vargas from Ecuador was a passenger in a car stopped by the Maine State Police for speeding on I-95 on August 4, 2025, said the United States Attorney's Office.
Woman Fled the Traffic Stop on Foot
She got out of the vehicle during the traffic stop and fled the scene on foot after U.S. Border Patrol agents were called to identify her.
Taken into Custody and Identified
She was apprehended a short time later and told police she was from Ecuador.
Woman was Previously Removed from the Country
Shiguano-Vargas had previously been removed from the U.S. in September 2024 and had no lawful immigration status in the country, according to court records.
Facing Two years in Prison and $250,000 Fine
She faces two years in prison with a maximum fine of $250,000. The investigation is ongoing.
