A woman died Monday evening after a fire destroyed a house in Windsor.

Victim Believed to be Homeowner

“The victim is believed to be 77-year-old Lorraine Knox who lived at the home,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Firefighters on the Scene of a Structure Fire

The Windsor Fire Department responded to the structure fire around 5:58 pm at 489 Ridge Road.

Fire Crews Battled Heavy Fire Conditions

Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions and the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Reports of Someone Trapped Inside the House

The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office also was on the scene due to reports of someone trapped inside the home.

Woman’s Body Found Inside Home

“Fire investigators and fire department personnel located a deceased female inside the residence,” said the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Medical Examiner to Confirm Identity of Victim and Cause of Death

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will do an examination for a positive confirmation of the victim’s identity and cause of death.

Cause of the Fire Under Investigation

Officials were investigating through most of the evening to determine the cause of the fire.

Homeowner was Using Electric Heaters after Furnace Issues

“It was reported that Knox had been experiencing furnace issues and was using electric heaters to warm the residence during the recent cold weather,” said Moss.
