28-year-old Hector Velazquez did not leave a great first impression in his MLB debut late last night. The Red Sox righthander got roughed up for six runs in five innings as the Oakland A's beat Boston 8-3.

A rousing 12,016 watched the game in Oakland.

Velazquez just didn't show much. He was staked to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and then went out and gave up two first inning home runs, to Jed Lowrie and Khris Davis. Velazquez gave up another homer in the third inning. In all, he allowed nine hits and two walks in his five innings of work.

Meanwhile, the Sox offense could muster six hits all night. Mitch Moreland hit a home run but for the most part they couldn't touch Sonny Gray and the A's bullpen.

So the Sox fall to 21-19 with Chris Sale pitching tonight.
