TSA Just Banned This Item From Checked Luggage at Maine Airports
There’s plenty you can’t pack when traveling, and now the TSA has recently banned another popular item—one that could impact travelers here in Maine.
Listen, we get it—rules aren’t always fun, but in this case, they’re in place to keep us as safe as possible. Especially when it comes to airports and travel, it’s best to know what’s allowed and what’s not before you pack.

So, before we get into it, let’s make sure we’re all on the same page: Who exactly is the TSA, and what authority do they have?
The TSA, or Transportation Security Administration, is a U.S. government agency created after 9/11 to help keep travelers safe, mainly by screening passengers and baggage at airports. They have the authority to set and enforce security rules for air travel, including what items are allowed or banned in luggage.
With that out of the way, the big question is—what popular item has just been banned from checked luggage?
According to a recent update from the TSA, portable chargers and power banks with lithium-ion batteries must be packed in your carry-on bag—not your checked luggage. While TSA officers have the final say at the checkpoint, the general rule is that spare lithium batteries—including power banks and phone chargers—are not allowed in checked bags.

And there you have it! Portable chargers or power banks containing a lithium-ion battery must now be packed in your carry-on bag, not in your checked luggage.
