Two people went to the hospital with minor injuries Monday morning after a car and tractor trailer collided on Rt. 27 in New Vineyard near the New Portland town line.

Eighteen-year-old Nathaniel Smith from Phillips and a 16-year-old passenger were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Hartts truck, 55-year-old Richard Morgan from New Gloster, was uninjured.

Police said Smith became distracted and veered into the tractor trailer’s lane. The accident happened around 11:18 a.m. Monday. Smith is charged with Operating Left of Center.

New Vineyard Fire, New Portland Fire, Dutch Gap Auto, Sanders Auto and North Star Ambulance assisted at the scene.
