The Houlton Police Department has charged three people with felony theft in connection with a theft in December at the Thirsty Dawg craft beer store.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on December 9, Houlton Police responded to a reported armed robbery at the Thirsty Dawg on Florence Avenue.

According to Chief Tim Deluca, an employee claimed that a man dressed in a camouflage jacket and black ski mask pointed a gun at her and demanded money. The male suspect then allegedly fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Immediately, Maine State Police along with a K-9, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Border Patrol responded to assist the Houlton Police Department with the search. Officer Richard York and Detective Stephen Nason began the investigation starting with the crime scene then interviewing witnesses.

Over the course of the days following the investigation and with the assistance of video surveillance, it was revealed the incident was falsely reported as a robbery, Chief Deluca said. The investigation determined that two men and a woman had been involved in the crime.

Nineteen-year-old Kristin Ganote of Houlton is charged with felony theft, unsworn falsification and false public alarm or report. Two Houlton men, 27-year-old Derrick White and 23-year-old Joseph Gould, are both charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer, a Class C Felony.

The incident remains under investigation. If you have additional information regarding this crime or others, please contact Det. Nason of the Houlton Police Department at 532-2287.
