The Store In The Aroostook Centre Mall That We Miss The Most

There are a lot of wishes if you will, about what stores we'd like to see or have missed in the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle. But there's one we really miss.

Recently, we asked our online audience what store they either missed or would like to see come back to the Aroostook Centre Mall. Here's what they said.

Out of many conversations on our radio station's Facebook page and after reviewing our poll numbers, the results are in.

I think it's safe to say that this particular store type may not have to be in the mall, but the public would really like to see a store of this kind in Presque Isle altogether.

About 15-percent of our pollsters voted that they really miss the B. Dalton Bookstore which used to be in the mall.

B. Dalton Bookstore, also known as B. Dalton Bookseller, Inc,  was founded in 1966 by a man named Bruce Dayton. He was of the same family that operated the Dayton's Department Store chain, which was headquartered out of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Declining profits in 1986 caused the chain to sell out to Barnes & Noble, who closed the B.Dalton chains after liquidation in 2010, due to declining sales.

If you've been to Bangor, you may have visited BAM - Books A Million, which is a stand-alone building with a coffee shop and a kids section.

It would be really cool to have a bookstore somewhere in the Presque Isle area and/ or other areas around Central Aroostook County.

Other stores that people said they missed in the mall were Sears, K-mart, Fashion Bug, Deb's, Spencer's and Dairy Queen.

Who knows what the total fate of the mall in Presque Isle will be when it's all said and done, but hopefully something good will become of it.
