11/18 - Houlton RCC began receiving several 9-1-1 calls of a northbound vehicle on Rt. 1 in Littleton that was operating erratically, causing vehicles to take evasive action and it had almost struck several vehicles. Tr. Monahan was able to catch up to the vehicle but the car was not heeding Tr. Monahan’s emergency lights and Tr. Monahan noticed the female operator was slumped over wheel. Tr. Monahan was able to get the operator’s attention with her siren and get the operator to stop. Medical personnel responded and it appears that the female operator was having a diabetic attack and she was treated and released.

11/18 – Tr. Clark received an assault complaint that stemmed from a pre-game locker room incident at the Central Aroostook Middle School in Mars Hill. A twelve year old boy was struck in the head with a basketball by another boy hard enough to cause a concussion. The parents of the injured boy were not satisfied with what the school had done for punishment and wanted to report the assault. The boy missed the rest of the week of school and has been scheduled for follow up treatment with a concussion specialist.

11/19 - Tr. Saucier investigated the assault of an Ed Tech at the Mill Pond School in Hodgdon. A 10 year old, who is large for his age, became irate and grabbed the teacher by the right arm, twisted it, and brought her to the floor. The teacher sought immediate medical attention and was scheduled to see her physician for her injuries. The student was sent to a crisis unit for treatment and the school is pursuing prosecution as he has a history of assaultive behavior.

11/21 – Tr. Casavant took a report of a runaway juvenile from New Canada. The 17 year old male got on the bus that morning to go to school, however he ended up leaving school in Fort Kent. The juvenile’s parent advised this has been an ongoing issue. A file 6 was issued for the juvenile and area agencies were notified. The juvenile was eventually located on 11-22-13 and was unharmed.

11/21 - Tr. Flynn investigated a family fight between 2 sisters in Caswell. Both were very intoxicated. A 27 year old sister from Portland began punching holes in the walls. The 25 year old sister and the tenant tried pushing her older, larger sister out of her house when she refused to stop or leave. The 25 year old sister aggravated an injury sustained a week earlier resulting from a mv crash. She was transported to Cary Medical Center and later released. No charges resulted from this incident.

11/21 - Tr. Sylvia responded to the Northern Lighthouse in Mars Hill for a runaway juvenile. Employees and the child’s mother reported the 14 y/o as a runaway after she left the Mars Hill High school without permission and did not return to the Lighthouse. The 14 y/o has a history of running away. Tr. Sylvia located the 14 y/o at a friend’s house in Bridgewater and she was returned to the Lighthouse. The 14 y/o said that she ran away because she did not want to go to a counseling meeting with her mother.

11/23 - Tr. Quint and Tr. Ferland responded to a residence in Ludlow where a reported assault had occurred. It was determined that a 28 year old female had assaulted her mother. She was arrested for domestic violence assault, a Class D crime.

11/23 – Tr. Clark was traveling on the Woodland Center Road when a deer from a group of deer entered the roadway into his path. Tr. Clark was unable to avoid a collision and struck the deer, killing it. Tr. Clark did receive minor injuries to his hand when the airbag deployed. The cruiser had substantial damage but was driven from the scene to the Houlton barracks where Tr. Clark retrieved a spare.

11/25 - Tr. Flynn arrested a 52 year old Caswell man for DV terrorizing and criminal mischief. Subject attempted to kick the door in at his ex-wife’s residence. The man brought several people that were taking items from her garage.

11/25 - Tr. Marquis had a two day trial with a 30 year old St. Francis woman related to furnishing alcohol which led to a fatal accident. The woman was found guilty on furnishing charges. Five other people were previously convicted related to the fatal crash in St. Francis in 2011.

11/25 - Tr. Flynn arrested a Mars Hill man for Violation of Protective Order. The man attempted to make entry into the protected party’s residence. Tr. Flynn found the man lying on his back intoxicated on the floor of the upstairs entryway. He was transported to ACJ for another VPO violation.

11/26 - Tr. Sylvia received information that two subjects were at a camp in Amity allegedly making meth. Tr. Jared Sylvia went to the camp located about 2 miles off the Estabrook Road. He found a back pack with the precursors to manufacture methamphetamine along with a one pot vessel and subsequently arrested two brothers one 28 and the other 26 both of New Limerick. Troopers Flynn and Clark assisted MDEA with the investigation. MDEA’s Lab Team responded the following day and executed a search warrant.

11/27 - Tr. Casavant investigated a burglary on the Gentle Rd in Littleton. Several items were reported missing and the case remains under investigation.

11/27 - Tr. Marquis attended two suspect polygraphs related to an ongoing theft investigation he has been working since last summer in St. John. One suspect passed and the other failed. The investigation is ongoing.

11/30 - Tr. Monahan responded to two camp breaks in the Southern Aroostook area. At one of the camps, a burglary was investigated there days ago by Tr. Quint and unknown person(s) had broken into it again. At the second camp, items had been discovered missing over the past few months and earlier this week the owners were at the camp when a vehicle pulled in and then took off rapidly upon seeing someone there. The camp owners gave chase and were able to identify the vehicle and provided the information to Tr. Monahan whose investigation is continuing

12/02 – Tr. Clark responded to Mars Hill for a report of a break in. Suspects entered through a locked window and left out a side entry door not closing it fully. Neighbor observed the door open. Tr. Clark located two separate tread patterns left on the sofa cushions. Tr. Clark followed foot prints left in the snow to a residence where he interviewed two suspects that have been arrested for breaking into this same residence multiple times in the past. Footwear matching the patterns left on the couch were located in the residence. Both male and female subject were on probation and the male had three warrants and five sets of bail conditions. The female confessed when confronted with the evidence left at the scene and the matching foot wear located in the residence. The female stated that they were looking for cigarette butts to smoke and admitted to taking two cigarette butts. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the ACJ. Probation holds were placed on both and both were charged with burglary and theft.

12/02 - Tr. Flynn investigated a theft complaint in Oxbow. The house was being foreclosed on and a company was hired to go change all the locks. The homeowner alleged property was stolen, but the company took photos of the residence to cover themselves from these types of allegations. Interviews later verified property had been stolen from the residence and charges are pending.

12/02 - Tr. Sylvia investigated a child custody complaint that turned into a tampering with a victim case. The case remains under investigation and will be submitted to the District Attorney for review.

12/03 - Tr. Saucier investigated a theft in Sherman where a man reported his debit card was stolen. The man also reported his bank account had been cleaned out. Tr. Saucier is working with the bank on ATM surveillance footage. The investigation is ongoing.

12/05 – Tr. Clark responded to a residence in Mars Hill for a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway with its lights on and the vehicle running. The homeowner did not see anyone in the vehicle. Tr. Clark arrived and observed a male sleeping at the wheel. The male was suspended and admitted to operating the vehicle. Tr. Clark located a useable amount of marijuana and scales along with bath salt paraphernalia on the subject’s person. The owner of the vehicle, suspect’s mother, was called to come get the vehicle. The male was summonsed for OAS, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

12/05 - Tr. Whalen arrested a male in Hodgdon after complaint was made to D.A’s office about a possible bail violation. Male was on bail conditions to not contact female after his arrest for domestic assault. It was discovered that the male had been calling and texting the female repeatedly and also seeing her. Male was arrested without incident

12/05 - Tr. Monahan assisted at MCJA with Crimes in Progress on the 5th and 6th.

12/06 - Houlton R.C.C. received a report of a serious motor vehicle accident in Eagle Lake. Tr. Michaud responded to the scene of the crash. Investigation disclosed that a 22 year old male had been traveling north when he lost control and then struck a large evergreen tree. The force of the crash was so severe that it uprooted the mature tree and snapped it in half. The investigation is ongoing; however, speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. The man was transported to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent by ambulance, and later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with serious injuries. Tr. Michaud was assisted at the crash by Tr. Jeff Clark, Warden Sgt. Jeff Spencer, and the Eagle Lake Fire Department.

12/06 - 12/6 Sgt. Haines responded to a Tactical Team activation in Old Orchard Beach.

12/07 – Tr. Quint responded to a car / deer crash in Weston involving an on-duty Border Patrol Agent and his government vehicle. The Agent was driving south on US Highway 1 when a deer ran in front of his patrol vehicle and he could not avoid hitting the animal, which died at the scene. The SUV the Agent was operating suffered approximately $5000 worth of damage but was able to be driven from the scene. The Agent was not injured in the crash. There were 22 crashes covered by Troop F this past week.

12/07 - Houlton PD requested a K9 to assist with a subject who had warrants for his arrest that fled a vehicle on foot. Sgt. Fuller and K9 Gleni responded and were able to track the subject for 1 ½ miles and caught up to him in the woods where he was arrested.

12/08 - While investigating an unrelated traffic complaint on State Route 11 north of Knowles Corner, Tr. Quint observed a speeding vehicle and noticed the driver turned his face away as they met and the driver did not slow down. Tr. Quint stopped the vehicle and identified the driver who had a suspended license and two active arrest warrants. The man was arrested and transported to the Aroostook County jail.

12/08 - Troopers Casavant and Sylvia responded to a family fight in Sherman. Two teenage sons were causing a disturbance and were removed from the residence.

12/10 - Tr. Marquis investigated a fraud complaint in Wallagrass. The investigation is ongoing.

12/10 - Sgt. Haines responded to Tactical Team activations in Levant on 12/10 and Hollis on 12/12.

12/10 - Tr. Sylvia responded to a trespassing complaint in Linneus. Several neighbors were having a dispute and there were allegations of assault, but neither party wanted to cooperate and were warned for trespassing.

12/13 – Tr. Casavant escorted a vehicle transporting cash from a bank in Mars Hill. The branch was being closed and funds in excess of $100K were relocated to Presque Isle.

12/13 – Tr. Ferland and Sgt. Fuller investigated an unattended death in Littleton. A 56 year old male left work on Tuesday 12/10 because he was not feeling well. A co-worker stopped by the man’s residence on Friday and discovered the man deceased. No foul play is suspected.

12/14 - Tr. Saucier investigated three separate bad check complaints in the town of Sherman involving the same suspect. The investigation is ongoing.

12/15 - Tr. Casavant investigated a burglary on the Van Buren Rd in Caswell. The complainant reported the residence belongs to his mother. The investigation is ongoing.

12/16 - Tr. Marquis assisted a Florida man with a Florida court order with applying for and getting a Maine court order and warrant to secure his children from their mother in Van Buren. A warrant was issued by the judge and Tr. Marquis along with the assistance of Van Buren PD took custody of the two boys age 8 and 10 and turned them over to the father. A hearing was held the following day and the judge granted a Maine court order in the father’s favor and he returned to Florida with his two sons.

12/16 - Troopers Flynn and Casavant responded to E. Plantation for a domestic dispute. The 28 year old male and 54 year old female both admitted to being physical with the other during a heated argument, but neither had injuries or showed signs of being the primary aggressor. The parties were separated and the case will be submitted to the DA’s Office for review.

12/18 - Tr. Ferland responded to an unattended death of an 80 year old woman in Silver Ridge. There was nothing suspicious about the death and it was ruled as natural.

12/18 - Tr. Lilley responded to Southern Aroostook High School for a report of a hit and run. Two vehicles that had been parked in the parking lot during the school day had been struck and damaged by another vehicle. The offending vehicle had left the scene. After reviewing camera video of the parking lot, Tr. Lilley discovered that cameras had caught the offending pickup striking the two vehicles as it skidded into the lot. Afterwards, the offender surveyed the damage then moved the pickup to a different part of the lot. Tr. Lilley recognized the pickup on the video and later located the student and the pickup. The student admitted to striking the vehicles and not reporting the accident, he was summonsed for leaving the scene of a PD accident.

12/18 - Tr. Cyr responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in St. Francis where a vehicle had skidded off the road and struck a utility pole, causing the power lines to droop low in the roadway. An approaching trailer truck didn’t notice the lowered lines and he struck the line, pulling it down along with several other lines and snapping the utility pole. Power was out in the area until utility crews could replace the pole and repair the lines.

12/19 - Tr. Saucier and Sgt. Haines responded to Masardis for a vehicle off the road where the operator was suspected to be intoxicated. As a result of the investigation a 44 year old Masardis man was arrested and charged for OUI.

12/20 – A Linneus man turned himself in on a warrant which had been issued in October following an incident in New Limerick. The warrant was for Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Burglary and Terrorizing. The man was contacted and convinced to turn himself in by coordinated efforts by all three sections in the Troop. The man was the last of five people who had warrants linked to the incident.

12/20 - Tr. Marquis responded to a crash in Madawaska Lake Twp. after a call from one of the vehicles occupants who suggested the operator didn’t want the police to respond. Tr. Marquis recently assisted Madawaska PD with an OUI case with the same operator and knew he was under suspension. Tr. Marquis arrested the 21 year old Fort Kent man for operating after suspension.

12/21 - Tr. Whalen responded to a MDOT plow truck accident in Perham. Operator had gotten too close to the edge of the roadway, going off the road and tipping over down the embankment.

12/21 - Tr. Levesque responded to Eagle Lake for a report of a female that wouldn’t leave a residence. Female subject was under the influence of drugs and residents asked her to leave but she would not and was being increasingly disruptive. Residents were able to force her outside and lock the door. The woman fell and cut her head as she was leaving and she then stayed in the garage and continued causing a disturbance until Tr. Levesque and medical personnel arrived. Female was treated for the cut to her head. During investigation, Tr. Levesque discovered a male at the residence was on bail conditions and had been drinking. He was arrested for VCR and transported to Fort Kent.

12/21 - Tr. Casavant responded to a family fight on the Sly Brook Rd in Eagle Lake. A 12 year old boy was out of control and being assaultive after refusing to do his assigned household chores. The boy was given a stern lecture about behavior and minding his parents if he wanted to fulfill his goal of becoming a Maine Game Warden.

12/21 - Tr. Sylvia charged a 60 year old Mapleton man for harassing his ex-spouse after being served a cease harassment notice.

12/22 - Tr. Whalen assisted Presque Isle PD after a resident had brought in a suspicious CO2 cartridge to the PD. The cartridge was disposed of.

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties. In addition, the Troop patrols Interstate 95 from Sherman to the Canadian border in Houlton.
