Watch Taylor Swift Sing ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Better Man’ at Surprise Bluebird Cafe Set

Taylor Swift gave a few dozen people a major surprise on Saturday night (March 31): The country-turned-pop superstar showed up for an unannounced set at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville to perform a few songs.

The Tennessean reports that songwriter Craig Wiseman, who was at the top of the Bluebird's Saturday night bill, was the one to bring Swift onstage, to a standing ovation. Swift performed her song "Shake It Off," Little Big Town's "Better Man" (which she wrote) and her song "Love Story," which, Swift told the crowd, Wiseman passed up co-writing with her.

Years ago, Swift recalled, she and Wiseman had their first-co writing session, and she came armed with a few ideas -- including the beginning of "Love Story." Wiseman wasn't on board with the idea, and they ended up writing another song, but when Swift left, she "couldn't stop thinking about the idea."

"I thought there was something to it. I really liked it," Swift recalled -- so she stuck with it, and it became a No. 1, platinum-certified hit.

Swift's Saturday night performance was filmed, the Tennessean reports, for a documentary honoring the Bluebird Cafe's 35th anniversary; Big Machine Label Group head Scott Borchetta discovered Swift thanks to a songwriters' night at the venue.

"I wanted to say a big thank you to the Bluebird Cafe," Swift said on Saturday night. "I think any songwriter in town would echo my sentiments and say that this is kind of the only place where this exists -- this particular place where you get to come and hear the writer's take on the songs they've put out into the world."
