Suspects in Springfield Shooting Arrested After 6+ Hour Standoff

Two people who have been sought by police since a shooting in Springfield are now in custody.

Where Were They Found?

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office learned at approximately 12:30 Saturday afternoon that Matthew Vandine, 45, and Noel Wilson, 32, were at a residence in Prentiss. Vandine and Wilson were both wanted by police in connection with a shooting that happened on February 14th in Springfield. Officials have not released any information about the shooting itself, except to say that they received a report of a man who had been shot.

How Long Was the Standoff?

Deputies set up a perimeter around the home on Tar Ridge Road in Prentiss, the road was blocked off, and neighbors in the immediate area were instructed to shelter in place. After officials confirmed that the two people were alone and that there was a weapon inside with them, several attempts were made to contact the pair but they offered no response. After more than 6 1/2 hours, both suspects exited the home and were taken into custody.

Were Both People Arrested?

Vandine was arrested for his involvement in the shooting. Wilson, who left the scene of the shooting with Vandine, was arrested as well. Officials have not revealed what charges they will face.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, Vandine has a lengthy criminal history and was out on bail after another dangerous incident.
