‘Roseanne’ Revival Explains How John Goodman’s Dan Will Return
Once we’d gotten past the “why” of ABC’s Roseanne revival, there was still the “how” of John Goodman’s Dan taking part. The character famously served as one of the series finale’s heavier twists, but new details of the revival seek to undo poor Dan’s fate.
The eighth season of the original Roseanne memorably saw Goodman’s Dan having a heart attack, though the character survived. The show’s ninth season famously changed tone after the Conners won the lottery, though the series finale made a surprising revelation that most events had been therapeutic writings of the “real” Roseanne, and Dan had actually died of the attack.
Goodman was of course announced to return for ABC’s revival, and TVLine has an inside source that claims … well, they’re just going to fudge that. “Dan is very much alive,” the figure states. “They’re going to pretend like it never even happened.”
Set for midseason, the rival will include Goodman, Roseanne Barr, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman and Lecy Goranson, with Goranson’s later-season replacement Sarah Chalke taking on a new role.
The new season is expected to ignore most of the series finale revelations (you can watch them below), but stay tuned for more as we approach the fall, and Roseanne’s midseason return.
