Down east Maine and south-west New Brunswick took the brunt of a torrential rain storm Friday that caused widespread flooding and broke rainfall records.

The National Weather Service says parts of Washington County got hit with 6 inches of rain, more than the normal amount for the entire month.

Environment Canada reports St. Stephen, N.B. got the biggest soaking from the storm with about 160mm (6.2 inches) of rain. Fredericton saw 120 mm (4.7 inches) on Friday.

In our area, rainfall amounts ranged from about ½ inch in the northern St. John Valley to more than 2 inches in some parts of southern Aroostook County.
