If you have been out and about at all in the Presque Isle area today, then you may have noticed many purple pinkies.

Today is World Polio Day and the Presque Isle Rotary Club has teamed up with the University of Maine at Presque Isle to raise awareness of Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio worldwide and to raise money… $1 at a time, to go toward that global effort.

My boss, Lisa Miles, our Digital Managing Editor, Sash Spielman, and I attended today’s event at UMPI. We each donated our dollar and had our pinkies painted purple! The funds raised will go toward Rotary International’s End Polio Now efforts.

There was lots of hustle and bustle going on at UMPI with lots of people coming and going with purple pinkies!

The event is running today until 5pm at UMPI’s Campus Center. Other places to get your pinkie painted include the Aroostook Centre Mall Food Court until 4pm and also at TAMC’s Main Entrance and Pinkham Entrance from 1pm to 3pm today.

Tonight, TAMC presents its 30th Storer Boone Memorial Presentation also honoring Dr. Arthur Pendleton of Fort Fairfield – titled End Polio Now – at 7pm in the Campus Center.

Let’s all join in the fight to eradicate polio worldwide… one pinkie at a time!
