One of the Most Popular Drinks in Maine Announces Major Change
This drink, found in any gas station or grocery store in Maine, has recently announced that it’ll be going back to its roots.
Many Mainers have enjoyed this drink for years, whether for its flavor, as a mixer, or for a quick caffeine boost. It's a staple in our state, loved by folks of all ages.
So, which drink, a favorite of many Mainers, is changing its name?
Mountain Dew is bringing back the full word ‘mountain’ to its cans and bottles after about 20 years. PepsiCo is also changing the logo and packaging, replacing the angular font with a design that reflects its rustic origins. The new look will start appearing in stores in May of 2025.
The soda brand Mountain Dew is embracing its history and restoring some of the missing letters in its name.
The update highlights the brand’s connection to the outdoors and its origins in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains, where it was first created in 1948. Fans might notice the logo resembles the one from the 1990s, but with a modern twist, featuring softened angles for a more three-dimensional look. This revamp comes as Mountain Dew sales have dropped 7% in the first half of 2024, following slowing demand for PepsiCo’s drinks in North America.
But it seems the name on the can isn’t the only thing changing—the soda brand is undergoing a complete identity shift.
According to a report from CNN, Duane Stanford, editor and publisher of Beverage Digest, had the following to say about the upcoming change:
Mountain Dew appears ready to shake off the adrenaline rush that has defined the brand’s marketing for almost two decades, when a key strategy was to market Dew like an energy drink to an energy drink crowd.
