Police are investigating a shooting in the Skyway Industrial Park area of Presque Isle Monday morning that injured one person. Schools and several businesses closed as police searched for the alleged gunman. FOR THE LATEST UPDATE CLICK HERE.

The Presque Isle Police Department received a 9-1-1 call around 5:50 a.m. Monday from an unidentified male saying he had been shot and was dying, according to Police Chief Laurie Kelly.

Presque Isle Police along with Presque Isle Fire & Ambulance responded to a residence on Northern Road and found the victim with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Northern Light AR Gould Hospital for treatment. There’s no word on the man's condition.

Police say the shooting appears to be an isolated incident with no threat to the community. Area businesses and schools are, however, either on lock-down or closed until further notice as the gunman has not yet been located or identified.

This is an on-going investigation involving Presque Isle Police, Maine State Police, and Major Crimes Unit, Chief Kelly said.

The Presque Isle Middle School, the daycare center, Northern Maine Community College and some businesses in the Skyway area remain closed Monday. Police are urging residents in the area to please stay inside with doors locked.

MSAD #1 reported at 8:00 a.m. that all schools in Presque Isle and Mapleton will remain CLOSED Monday.  All PIHS and PIMS games, meets, matches, & practices are canceled for today.

The UMPI Campus reopened at 12 pm. Classes will set to resume at 2 pm. UMPI received verification from the city that the shooting in Presque Isle was an isolated incident with no threat.
