Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a series of church burglaries in central and northern Aroostook County.

Churches in Mapleton, Stockholm and Caribou were broken into between Monday, April 20th and Thursday, April 23rd, Maine State Police Sgt. Josh Haines said on Monday afternoon. In each case, items were either stolen or disturbed.

State Police were called to investigate break-ins at the St. Therese Parish Catholic Church on Route 161 in Stockholm and the United Methodist Church on Main Street in Mapleton.  During the same time period, Caribou Police responded to a break-in at the Bethel Holiness Pentecostal Church on the Access Highway.

Specifics about the manner of entry or items taken will not be released due to nature of the ongoing investigation, Haines said.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity around area churches is encouraged to contact Trooper Nick Casavant of the Maine State Police at 532-5400 or the Caribou Police Department at 493-3301.
