Sweet! Maine’s Strawberry Season Has Started With Some Of The Best Crops In Years!
Is there anything better than the sweet smell of strawberries in the sun?
Or getting down, picking one straight from the plant, and tasting all that delicious berry goodness straight from the farm?
In Maine, strawberry season lands somewhere between mid June to early July. Much like the beloved berry, the season is short and sweet.
But this year, farmers in the area are saying this could be the best year for berries yet!
Treworgy Family Orchards in Levant has been growing strawberries for over 40 years! They say while they haven't started to sell picked berries yet, they are open for 'Pick Your Own' and folks are taking full advantage of that!
"This is the best strawberry crop we’ve had in years - come and pick them while they last. This season will be a little shorter than in the past because of the varieties we have - so plan to come out before mid-July. "
A few towns over in Corinth, at RJ Hall's Family Farm (formerly Tate's Strawberries), they've been selling out of both their pre-picked and pick-your-own every day since they opened last week.
According to the website RealMaine.com, experts say there are key things to keep in mind to help you make the most of your "pick-your-own" visit to the farm.
"Plan ahead. Check out the website or social media pages of your favorite PYO farms for new policies
Pay attention to the signage and respect the rules on site.
If anyone in your group hasn’t been feeling well within the last 24 hours, they should stay home.
Please leave pets at home."
Pick while the pickin' is good, because the season is short, and you don't want to miss out on that sweet goodness.
