Pennfield Man Charged With Attempted Murder of Woman
A 65-year-old man from Pennfield, New Brunswick has been charged with attempted murder following an RCMP investigation into an apparent domestic assault.
At around 12:30 a.m. Friday, the St. George RCMP responded to a call regarding a possible assault at a home in Pennfield. RCMP members were able to gain entry into the residence and stop the attack in progress.
An unidentified woman in her late-50s was taken to hospital. She remained in serious but stable condition on Monday, according to Sgt. Chris Henderson of the St. George detachment.
Brian Harold Smith appeared in New Brunswick Provincial Court in Saint John on Monday. Smith was charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault. He was remanded in custody pending a court appearance on Thursday, April 27.
St. George RCMP and the West District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit continue their investigation.
