Patten Bank Robbery Suspect Still at Large

Police are investigating a bank robbery Tuesday afternoon in the northern Maine town of Patten.

State Police received a 911 call shortly after 2:30 p.m. reporting the East Mill Federal Credit Union on Church Street had been robbed. The caller stated that a man had entered the bank, demanded money and fled on foot.

State Troopers, Game Wardens, and Aroostook and Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputies converged on the area and began a search for the suspect. A State Police K-9 team was also brought in.

Police remained in the area throughout most of the evening continuing to interview witnesses and follow up on leads. Although state police do not believe that there is any immediate threat to the public, they urge Patten residents to remain vigilant and keep their homes and vehicles locked.

Anyone who may have noticed suspicious individuals or activity in the area Tuesday is urged to call the Maine State Police, Troop F in Houlton at 532-5400 or Aroostook County Crimestoppers at 1-800-638-8477. Trooper Tim Saucier is the lead investigator in the case.
