Northern Light Health AR Gould will soon be starting a support group for those living with Parkinson's Disease, as well as friends and family.

The inaugural meeting will be held in the Presque Isle hospital's conference center Wednesday, March 6, from 4:00-5:00 pm and will meet the first Wednesday of each month from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the conference center located in the hospital’s East Annex.

Jennifer Bryce, a speech therapist at the hospital who often works with patients with Parkinson's to help improve symptoms of voice, swallowing and memory problems is coordinating the program. Bryce started a similar group when she worked in the mid-coast region and thought it would work in the County as well, when she moved back.

Parkinson’s Disease symptoms vary with individuals, but often include tremors, rigidity, stiff muscles and trouble with balance. Bryce says, “People with Parkinson’s have so many different challenges in their daily life, things that most of us take for granted, like talking, getting dressed, sleeping and eating.”

In addition to the traditional sharing and support found in groups such as this, there will also be guest presenters at meetings.  These presenters will be determined based on the interest of group members.
