Grand Falls fire officials say one apartment was gutted and at least one more received extensive fire damage.  Six other apartments along with businesses on the ground floor- including real estate and insurance agencies-were damaged by smoke and water.

The Canadian Red Cross is assisting tenants with housing and emergency needs.  They will find out later today whether they are allowed back into their apartments.

There were no injuries reported and no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
