A river otter came out of the water, chased a woman and bit her. And it's not a happy ending for the otter...

According to the Press Herald

Marine Patrol Specialist Corrie Roberts said unfortunately the police had to shoot the otter because it had bit a human and needed to be tested for rabies. The otter was sent to a state lab in Augusta to be tested. The woman went to Pen Bay Medical Center to begin treatment for possible rabies.

Ugh. Normally they wouldn't have to shoot and kill the animal, but because it bit someone, they have to get it tested to see if it was rabid.

The beach was pretty crowded because it was a warm day and a couple from Pennsylvania caught the whole thing on really lousy video.
