The baby boy is the son of Ashley Burch, a County native who, until October, had been living in Florida for the past few years. She is now living in Perham. Weighing in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces and 21 inches long, the baby and his mom are both healthy and happy.

“My mother was terrified of flying,” said Burch, “but she made the trip to Florida and we drove back home to The County.” Burch had not decided on a name for her son at the time of this writing, but she was leaning toward Grayson.

“I think it was meant to be because there was a storm headed up the east coast called Grayson,” Burch said, laughing. “My Grayson is bringing joy.”

This is the first baby for Ashley, who went into labor on New Year’s Eve but didn’t end up welcoming her son until two days later on Tuesday, his actual due date.

Ashley’s son was delivered by Mary Hamilton, a nurse midwife from TAMC’s OB/GYN & Midwifery Services office, who also happened to deliver Ashley herself, 25 years earlier. “It’s funny how life comes full circle,” Burch said. “I also weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces when I was born.”

In honor of the special delivery, the family was presented with a basket full of gifts, including clothes, blankets, books, baby grooming essentials, and more, courtesy of TAMC, as well as a handmade quilt donated by the Crown of Maine Quilters and an afghan also donated for the first baby of the year.  As it does for all newborns, TAMC also provided the family with a HALO® sleep blanket, designed to help prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
