This year the City Of Presque Isle will join thousands of other communities in the United States to participate in the 35th Annual National Night Out, August 7th.

The NNO is a crime and drug prevention event taking place from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Presque Isle Housing Authority playground.

Presque Isle residents are invited to come out and meet, local law enforcement, and to join community action groups, social service agencies and local businesses, to promote crime prevention awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity.

This event, organized by the Presque Isle Police Department, is the first of its kind in Presque Isle. Eventually, the goal is to have several neighborhoods throughout the city holding neighborhood block parties on NNO, said Presque Isle Police Chief Matt Erwin. Erwin introduced the event during summer activity planning at the Presque Isle Housing Authority and the committee latched onto the idea as a great opportunity to bring such a well-known national effort to the city of Presque Isle.

Presque Isle Housing Authority Executive Director, Jennifer Trombley said:

this event is a perfect match for their mission. The Housing Authority promotes any opportunity to bring the community to our neighborhood in order to break down barriers and create new partnerships.

After several planning sessions and involvement from numerous community groups and businesses, the evening is shaping up to offer a good mix of fun, safety demonstrations, meeting of law enforcement and building community.

Central Aroostook Humane Society will be providing dog safety demonstrations. Wintergreen Arts Center will have volunteers there to provide face-painting and to assist with a logo design for Presque Isle are National Night Out event. Emergency vehicles from the PIFD, PIPD will be on sight. Law enforcement from the Maine State Police, Aroostook County Sherriff’s Department has been invited to participate in this positive community activity.

The National Night Out event will take place at the Presque Isle Housing Authority playground and can be accessed from the street at 65 Carmichael Street. The event will take place at Sargeant Family Community Center in the case of rain. For more information regarding this event contact Detective Kristopher Beck at the Presque Isle Police Department.
