The town where Osama bin Laden had his last stand is planning to build a 30 million dollar theme park.

The project in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in the foothills of the Himalayas, will include a wildlife zoo, heritage center, restaurants, jogging tracks, paragliding and artificial waterfalls.

The provincial government denies it is a bid to polish the town's image and hopes the planned 500-acre park will be a major boost to tourism. Officials insist the project has nothing to do with the town’s association with Osama bin Laden.

U.S. Special Forces shot the al-Qaeda leader in a local compound in May 2011. Bin Laden's hideout was demolished a year ago, to prevent it from becoming a shrine.

Work on the Abbottabad  Amusement park is due to start by early March and will take about eight years to complete.
