Yesterday, Chance the Rapper announced via a press conference that he planned to donate $1 million dollars toward Chicago public schools.

During the press conference at Wescott Elementary School in Chicago yesterday (March 6), the rapper also said he’s donating $10,000 to various public schools in the city for every $100,000 he raises for his non-profit organization. Wescott Elementary received the first of the checks.

“Our kids should not be held hostage because of political positions,” Chance said during his press conference.

Now, Michelle Obama has taken time out to personally thank Chance for his investment in Chicago public schools.

“Thank you @ChanceTheRapper for giving back to the Chicago community, which gave us so much,” she wrote on Twitter yesterday. “You are an example of the power of arts education.”

Of course, this isn't the first time Chance has received love from the Obamas, but the shout out was cool, nevertheless, particularly given the Obamas' ties to Chicago. Check out Chance's press conference yesterday here.
