Miami Holds Off Black Bears 4-3 [VIDEO]
The all-Maine freshmen pitching combo of Trevor Delaite (Bangor HS) and Cody Lawyerson (Valley HS) held powerhouse UMiami to four runs but the Black Bears could push across only three of their own. Game one of the series goes to the 'Canes 4-3.
Miami SS Romy Gonzalez rapped a 2-run home run off Delaite in the 3rd inning. But the Hurricanes finished the night with just three hits.
Delaite pitched 6.1 innings, giving up the four runs and three hits. He struck out three and walked five. Lawyerson pitched 1.2 innings of shutout ball.
Maine's 3B Danny Casals hit a solo homer as part of an 8-hit attack by the Bears.
The Black Bears loaded the bases with no outs in the 8th inning but a strikeout, a botched suicide squeeze play and a fly out snuffed out the rally.
Maine falls to 6-9. Miami improves to 7-9.
Game two of the series is Wednesday at 6pm.
