A 38-year-old woman and a 29-year-old, both from Patten, were arrested Sunday morning on multiple charges.

Aroostook County Sheriff’s Deputy Rick York approached Cynthia Burley on the Golden Ridge Road in Sherman on an active arrest warrant for an unpaid fine around 10 a.m. Sunday. Burley gave a false name and refused to identify herself.

The Sheriff’s Office described the encounter:

Deputy York was aware that Burley had an active arrest warrant for an unpaid fine. Deputy York approached Burley who identified herself as another person.

Deputy York was familiar with Burley and tried to confirm her identity. Burley continued to give a false name. When the Deputy was finally able to confirm her identity, 29-year-old Caleb Trembly of Patten who was walking with Burley became confrontational and tried to interfere. After a brief struggle, Deputy York was able to place Burley into custody.

Deputy York arrested Tembly and he was charged him with obstructing government administration. Burley was taken also into custody and faces new charges of failure to give correct name, refusal to submit to arrest or detention and violation of conditions of release, in addition to the warrant for unpaid fines, said the Sheriff’s Office.

Burley and Trembly were taken to the Aroostook County Jail for holding. Deputy York was assisted on scene by Trooper Caleb Adams of the Maine State Police.
