Man Arrested After Threat Against School in Perth-Andover
Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a threat made Monday against Southern Victoria High School in Perth-Andover.
According to Staff Sgt. Ross Gorman of the West District RCMP, the High School was placed on a 'hold and secure' order prior to the noon hour as a precautionary measure.
This meant staff and students could move freely inside the school but no one was allowed in or out. That order was lifted around 1 p.m., Gorman said.
Jason Humphrey, a spokesman for the Anglophone West School District, said a threatening message was brought to the attention of the principal Monday morning and the school immediately activated its comprehensive school safety plan.
The 19-year-old suspect was arrested without incident in a neighbouring community. The nature of the threat was not revealed. RCMP say the investigation is continuing.
