Man Accused of Attacking Parents in Grand Falls, N.B.
A 21-year-old New Brunswick man is expected to be charged with murder and attempted murder after allegedly attacking both his parents in Grand Falls.
Grand Falls police responded to a home on the Tobique Road around midnight Friday after receiving a call about an assault in progress, according to the Canadian Press.
Acting Police Chief Rosaire Leclerc said officers found two victims when they arrived at the home. The suspect's 54-year-old mother died from her injuries, despite attempts to resuscitate her. The 57-year-old father was taken to the hospital in Grand Falls with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.
Police originally said a knife was used in the assault, but at a news conference on Monday, Leclerc called the weapon a "blunt instrument." Two axes were reportedly seized at the scene of the attack.
A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
