AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Some of Maine's winter hunting seasons are heading into their final few weeks.

Maine's winter seasons focus mostly on small and mid-sized game animals. The bobcat season is the first to end on Feb. 21.

Other winter seasons include the hunts from snowshoe hare, fox and gray squirrel. Squirrels can only be hunted via falconry and the season ends on Feb. 28. The fox season also ends that day.

The snowshoe hare hunt ends on Feb. 28 on Vinalhaven Island and March 31 everywhere else. There are bag and possession limits for squirrel and hare, but not for bobcat and fox.

The next major hunt is the spring wild turkey hunt, which begins on April 30.
