Maine Is One of the States With the Highest Amounts of Stress

Believe it or not, according to a recent study, our state—also known as ‘Vacationland’—is actually one of the most stressed-out in the country.

Listen, from an outsider’s perspective, they might wonder—what is there to even be stressed about up here in Maine? Well, to those asking that question, just try coming up during peak tourist season… oh wait, you already do—you’re part of the reason we’re stressed.

So, given all of that, how do we know which states are more stressed than others, and how do we know that Maine ranks so high when it comes to stress?

ALOT Travel utilized WalletHub's stress rankings to spotlight the 25 most stressed states in the U.S., emphasizing how external factors like work, finances, family dynamics, and health issues contribute to regional stress disparities.

Well, with that in mind, we know that Maine is apparently more stressed than many other states—but where do we actually land?

According to ALOT Travel, WalletHub, and the study highlighting ‘The U.S. States With the Highest Amounts of Stress,’ Maine ranked 20th overall: 38th in Work Stress, 14th in Money Stress, 34th in Family Stress, and 12th in Health & Safety Stress. ALOT Travel had the following to say about the results:

Maine's stressors are kind of all over. You've got work and family stress worked out pretty smoothly, hovering in the #30s. However, when it comes to health and safety and money concerns, the state isn't shaking it off as easily, ranking 12th and 14th, respectively.

And there you have it—while we’re not at the very top of the list (thankfully), our Pine Tree State still finds itself on the more stressed-out side of things.
