Maine State Police Troop ‘F’ Weekly Report (Sept. 3 – 9)
Troop F of the Maine State Police responded to 127 calls for service in and around Aroostook County this past week. Here are the incidents included in their weekly report:
Incident Type: UNSAFE MOTOR VEHICLE Date: 9/02/2018 Town: FORT KENT Trooper: TR. LEVESQUE Brief Synopsis: Tr. Levesque was getting fuel in Fort Kent when another vehicle pulled in next to him. Tr. Levesque noticed the vehicle’s fuel tank was being held to the frame by an orange ratchet strap. Tr. Levesque started talking to the owner and asked about the strap. The man downplayed the violation and said he was going to get gas. Tr. Levesque then noticed the frame on the vehicle was broken. The vehicle was displaying a recent certificate of inspection but there was no writing on the back of the sticker. Tr. Levesque issued the man a criminal summons for operation of an unsafe vehicle and recorded the inspection sticker numbers. Tr. Levesque is working to identify where the sticker was obtained. The vehicle was towed from the gas station.
Incident Type: OAS Date: 9/03/2018 Town: EASTON Trooper: SGT. CLARK Brief Synopsis: Sgt. Clark was conducting traffic enforcement on US Highway 1A, Easton. He observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of the Bear Trap Road and US Highway 1A. Sgt. Clark stopped the vehicle for the infraction and during the stop he discovered the female driver had a suspended Maine driver’s license due to her failing to make required payment of fines and/or costs. Sgt. Clark gave the woman a traffic summons for the OAS Infraction and a warning for failing to stop at the stop sign.
Incident Type: OUI Date: 9/03/2018 Town: EASTON Trooper: SGT. CLARK Brief Synopsis: Sgt. Clark was conducting traffic enforcement on the Conant Road, Easton. He observed a vehicle committing a traffic infraction on the roadway and stopped the vehicle. During the stopped he suspected the male driver was impaired from consuming liquor. After conducting Field Sobriety Testing, the man was arrested for OUI and taken to the Presque Isle Police Department for a breath test. The results of the test showed the man was impaired and he was given a criminal summons for OUI and allowed to post bail. The man also had a conditional license due to a previous OUI charge.
Incident Type: FAILURE TO REGISTER VEHICLE Date: 9/05/2018 Town: HODGDON Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint was conducting traffic enforcement on the Hodgdon Mills Road, Hodgdon. He observed a vehicle that did not appear to be displaying a registration plate. After stopping the vehicle, it was discovered the vehicle did have registration plates but they were obscured with a heavily tinted plate cover. During the stop, Cpl. Quint discovered the female driver had an expired registration (309 days). The woman said she went to the town office to register the vehicle and decided to wait until October to avoid paying the registration. The woman was issued a criminal summons for the violation and was given a warning for the obscured registration plate.
Incident Type: STOLEN VEHICLE Date: 9/05/2018 Town: PORTAGE LAKE Trooper: TR. KILCOLLINS Brief Synopsis: Tr. Kilcollins responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. The person making the complaint told Tr. Kilcollins there was a man driving around various camps in Portage Lake and seemed suspicious. Tr. Kilcollins was checking the area and discovered the described vehicle was hidden in the woods. Upon further investigation, it was found the vehicle had been reported stolen from Caribou. Tr. Kilcollins received information the man driving the vehicle was last seen on the North Star Road. Tr. Kilcollins along with Game Wardens searched the area and followed several tracks and leads but were not able to find the man. Tr. Levesque and K-9 ”Vitz” joined the search but were not able to locate the man. The vehicle was towed from the area and a warrant has been requested for the man.
Incident Type: OUI DRUGS Date: 9/05/2018 Town: SHERMAN Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams was dispatched to a vehicle northbound on I-95 that was operating erratically. A second caller reported the same type of operation and was following the vehicle as it exited in Sherman then headed toward Staceyville. A short time later, the caller reported that the vehicle had hit a mailbox and the operator was injured. Tr Adams arrived and found the 62 yo male was intoxicated and injured, then transported to Houlton Hospital for treatment. The injuries were minor and the male exhibited indicators that he was under the influence of drugs. Tr Adams wrote a search warrant for the blood results and summonsed the male for OUI drugs.
Incident Type: WARRANT Date: 9/05/2018 Town: PORTAGE Trooper: CPL. MICHAUD Brief Synopsis: Corporal Michaud received information regarding a woman with a warrant out for her arrest in the Portage Lake area. He responded to the area and eventually found the woman walking on Route 11. She was arrested without incident and transported to the Aroostook County Jail.
Incident Type: OAS Date: 9/06/2018 Town: HODGDON Trooper: TR. BELL Brief Synopsis: Tr Bell was parked in Hodgdon and he observed a 30 yo male drive past him. Tr Bell knew this male and knew that he had previously had a suspended license. Tr Bell ran his license and found that he was under suspension for failing to file insurance. Tr Bell stopped the male and summonsed him for the violation.
Incident Type: OUI Date: 9/07/2018 Town: NEW SWEDEN Trooper: TR. CURTIN Brief Synopsis: While Tr. Curtin was transporting his prisoner from an earlier arrest to jail, a report was taken at the Houlton Barracks of an intoxicated driver that had gone off the road in his vehicle. Tr. Curtin was only minutes from that crash scene and responded to the area. He located the man passed out in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Tr. Curtin arrested that subject as well and transported them both to the Caribou Police Department. Once there, Cpl. Michaud took one of the subjects and brought him the rest of the way to jail. Tr. Curtin charged the operator of the crash for Operating Under the Influence. He refused to take a test to determine his alcohol level and was transported to jail as well.
