It was a busy week for Troop F of the Maine State Police, who responded to 170 calls for service in and around Aroostook County. Here is a sampling from their weekly report:

Incident Type: WARRANT ARREST Date: 7/01/2018 Town: HOULTON Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams responded to the Houlton POE for a report of a male at the crossing who had 2 active warrants. Tr Adams responded and arrested the male on the warrants and transported him to ACJ.

Incident Type: PROHIBITED POSS OF FIREARM/ WARRANT ARREST Date: 7/03/2018 Town: STACYVILLE Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams was in Staceyville trying to locate a male on a warrant issued in New Hampshire. Tr Adams drove to a residence and located the male who had a shotgun in his possession. Tr Adams found that the male was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to an active protection order. Tr Adams arrested the male for prohibited possession of a firearm and transported him to PSO where he was charged with fugitive from justice on the New Hampshire warrant.

Incident Type: FAILING TO REPORT CRASH Date: 7/03/2018 Town: WALLAGRASS Trooper: CPL. HAFFORD Brief Synopsis: Cpl Hafford responded to a crash in Wallagrass. The caller was a passer-by who reported the crash to FKPD at around 0530hrs A vehicle had left the roadway in a curve and rolled over onto the driveway of a resident. The operator was located at his residence in Eagle Lake and he reported that the crash occurred around 0500hrs but after speaking to the resident who lives at the crash scene, it was determined that the crash occurred at 0230hrs. Cpl Hafford completed the crash report and summonsed the male operator for failing to report the crash by quickest means.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 7/05/2018 Town: CASTLE HILL Trooper: TR. LEVESQUE Brief Synopsis: Tr. Levesque stopped a vehicle in Castle Hill for a traffic infraction. During the stop, it was discovered that the male driver had a suspended Maine driver’s license was suspended for failing to make child support payments and OUI. The man was issued a criminal summons and arranged to have a licensed driver come get the vehicle.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL SPEED Date: 7/05/2018 Town: PRESQUE ISLE Trooper: TR. KILCOLLINS Brief Synopsis: Tr. Kilcollins was driving through Presque Isle when he observed a vehicle driving criminal speed (61 mph in a 25-mph zone). Tr. Kilcollins stopped the vehicle and found a 16-year-old male driving. He was issued a criminal summons for his speed and Tr. Kilcollins contacted the boy’s mother.

Incident Type: WELL BEING CHECK Date: 7/05/2018 Town: ST. AGATHA Trooper: CPL. MICHAUD Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Michaud responded to a St. Agatha apartment complex when a woman called to request a well-being check on her next-door neighbor. The woman was concerned because of the temperatures being in the high 90’s. Cpl. Michaud was able to get into the apartment and spoke with the woman who was fine. She had family that was assisting her.

Incident Type: SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT Date: 7/05/2018 Town: LINNEUS Trooper: TR. SYLVIA Brief Synopsis: Tr. Sylvia responded to a Linneus resident when a woman reported damage had been done to a vehicle she owned. She reported that substances including sugar and dirt, had been put in her gas tank. The investigation is ongoing.

Incident Type: K-9 ACTIVITY Date: 7/06/2018 Town: LIMESTONE Trooper: TR. LEVESQUE Brief Synopsis: Tr. Levesque and K-9 Vitz responded to the Loring Commerce Center to assist Limestone PD with searching for a burglary suspect. The PD located the man before the K-9 team could be deployed at the scene.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL THREATENING W/ WEAPON Date: 7/06/2018 Town: SMYRNA Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams was dispatched to Smyrna for a report of a male threatening another male with a handgun. Tr Adams and Bell responded and learned that the complainant lived at the residence where the male respondent lives. The complainant went to the residence and an argument started between him and the other male, who pulled a .9mm handgun out and pointed it at the complainant. C1 fled the scene on a snow sled trying to get away from the male then called when a safe distance away. Tr. Adams arrested the male for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and transported him to ACJ.

Incident Type: WARRANT ARREST Date: 7/06/2018 Town: HOULTON Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams responded to the POE in Houlton for a report of a male crossing the border who had an active warrant for arrest. Tr Adams arrested the male and transported him to ACJ.

Incident Type: K-9 ACTIVITY Date: 7/07/2018 Town: MONTICELLO Trooper: TR. LEVESQUE Brief Synopsis: Tr. Levesque and K-9 Vitz responded to Monticello to track a suspect that had ran from Troopers. The team tracked a significant distance before Vitz lost the track.

Incident Type: FATAL CRASH Date: 7/07/2018 Town: CROSS LAKE TWP Trooper: CPL. HAFFORD Brief Synopsis: On July 7th at approximately 0330hrs, Cpl Hafford was dispatched to a vehicle off the road on Rt. 161 in Sinclair, later determined to be Cross Lake. Cpl Hafford was told that the vehicle was not occupied. A short time later, Emera Maine called and reported that a male was in the vehicle. The power had gone out in the Cross Lake area due to a tree hitting the wires from this crash. Cpl Hafford arrived on scene and discovered that the 38-year-old male operator was killed in the crash. Investigation showed that it appeared the male had fallen asleep, the vehicle drifted off the roadway and into the tree line with no indication of braking or evasive steering.

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties.
