Maine State Police Troop F Weekly Report (August 7–13)
Troop F of the Maine State Police responded to 128 calls for service over the past week in and around Aroostook County. Here is the Troop's weekly report:
Incident Type: Crash Date: 8/08/2017 Town: Masardis Trooper: Tr. Saucier Brief Synopsis: On 8/8/17 at approximately 1:14 PM State Police were called to a tractor trailer rollover on Route 11 in Masardis. Tr. Saucier responded and learned the following through his crash investigation. 59-year-old Kerry Holmes of Molunkus was traveling South on Route 11 with a load of chips when he rounded a corner and suddenly was unable to steer the vehicle. The truck rolled onto its side and struck a telephone pole before coming to rest partially in the roadway spilling the load of chips into the ditch. The truck is owned by Keith Mitchell and Son’s Trucking of Sherman and sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene. The fuel tank was ruptured and DEP responded to oversee the cleanup. Holmes was wearing his seat belt and sustained minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation and the vehicle will be examined by the State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit.
Incident Type: ACCIDENT - SERIOUS INJURY Date: 8/09/2017 Town: Oakfield Trooper: Tr. Lilley Brief Synopsis: Tr. Lilley responded to a single vehicle roll over crash on US RT. 2 in Dyer Brook. Tr. Lilley learned that Michael Pelham of Oakfield was driving his 2007 Nissan 350Z sports car west bound at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve in the road. Pelham lost control of his vehicle crossing the east bound lane becoming airborne striking a utility pole. The vehicle began to roll over for approximately 75 yards were it came to rest in a pasture. Pelham was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Pelham was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with injuries. Larry Hersey of Oakfield was a passenger in the vehicle and was wearing his seat belt. Hersey was transported to HRH with non-life threatening injuries. Pelham was charged with OUI and operating after suspension. Tr. Lilley is still investigating this crash.
Incident Type: Accident, OUI, Arrest Date: 8/10/2017 Town: Washburn Trooper: Tr. Stoutamyer Brief Synopsis: Tr. Stoutamyer and Tr. Pescitelli responded to the town of Washburn because of a report of a man who went off the road and into the complainant’s yard destroying a tree, and continued on his way. The investigation revealed that the operator was a 63-year-old Washburn man who was alone and clearly intoxicated. He had traveling north on Hines Street when he drifted off the right side of the roadway. The operator then drove in 2 large circles going off both sides of the road both times, and traveling into the front yard both times. The vehicle involved shed body parts in the process to include the front license plate. The operator then continued to drive his damaged vehicle over a half of a mile to his own residence where he stopped and exited his vehicle. Tr. Pescitelli arrived at the operator’s residence to find the man rolling around in the grass due to his level of intoxication. The man was transported by Crown Ambulance to the Aroostook Medical center where he was treated and later released with no injuries. The man was charged for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, and for Leaving The Scene of a Property Damage Accident.
Incident Type: VCR Date: 8/10/2017 Town: Portage Trooper: Tr. Adams Brief Synopsis: Tr. Adams was working a speed detail on Route 11, and stopped a vehicle for a high rate of speed. Upon investigation the passenger was trying to hide two open containers in the vehicle. The passenger was on bail and had conditions not to use or possess alcohol. The vehicle was searched and the alcohol was seized. The operator of the vehicle was issued a speeding ticket and the passenger was arrested and transported to Ashland Police Department to take an Intoxilyzer test. The male was then transported to Aroostook County Jail and charged with Violation of Condition of release and was also issued a citation for having an open container in a motor vehicle.
Incident Type: OAS Date: 8/11/2017 Town: Linneus Trooper: Tr. Bell Brief Synopsis: Tr. Bell ran a driver that was observed driving and suspected of having a suspended driver’s license. It was confirmed the driver was suspended. The driver was stopped, summonsed for operating after suspension, and given a ride to a friend’s house.
Incident Type: Accident Date: 8/12/2017 Town: T9-R5 Trooper: Tr. Adams Brief Synopsis: Tr. Adams responded to a report of a vehicle that had gone off the road and there was no one around. The vehicle had traveled around a corner and went off the road and rolled and hit a tree. There was no one around the vehicle when it was found. The operator ended up reporting the accident late and after an investigation the operator was charged with Failure to Give Notice of Accident by Quickest Means.
Incident Type: OUI Date: 8/12/2017 Town: Mars Hill Trooper: Tr. Pescitelli Brief Synopsis: Tr. Pescitelli was on patrol in Mars Hill when he noticed a vehicle try to avoid being seen by him by pulling into a gas station. Tr. Pescitelli pulled into the gas station and walked up to the truck and noticed a passenger consuming an open container of alcohol and another one for the operator. The operator was administered field sobriety tests and as a result, arrested for operating under the influence. He was transported to Aroostook County Jail and upon a search of his person he was found to be in possession of Hydrocodone pills, for which he was also charged with possession of a Schedule W drug.
Incident Type: Case Solved Date: 8/12/2017 Town: Mapleton Trooper: Tr. Pescitelli Brief Synopsis: A male subject had reported being assaulted near the elevator to his apartment building a week prior. After interviewing the suspect it was discovered that his story contradicted the complainant’s account of events. Video surveillance was subpoenaed from the property manager’s and upon review it was discovered the complainant had fabricated the events of the incident and assaulted the original suspect first. The male was charged with unsworn falsification and assault.
Incident Type: THEFT Date: 8/12/17 Town: Washburn Trooper: Cpl. Michaud Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Michaud took and initial call of a theft in Washburn. A local man reported that he had two kayaks stolen from the top of his truck while he went into a local convenience store. After further investigation the owner called back a short time later stating a couple of his friends had played a practical joke on him and his kayaks had not actually been stolen.
Incident Type: Assault Date: 8/12/17 Town: Mars Hill Trooper: Tr. Casavant Brief Synopsis: Tr. Casavant responded to a Mars Hill apartment complex for a report of an assault. Tr. Casavant spoke to the parties involved and after his investigation determined that a report would be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
Incident Type: Protection Order Date: 8/12/2017 Town: Westfield Trooper: Tr. Casavant Brief Synopsis: Tr. Casavant investigated the report of a protection order violation in Westfield. A neighbor reported seeing a woman at her mother’s home when there was a protection order in place. Once Tr. Casavant completed his investigation, it was determined that the woman was able to return to the residence to get some belongings and there was no violation.
Incident Type: Crash Date: 8/13/2017 Town: Masardis Trooper: Tr. Saucier Brief Synopsis: On 8/13/17 at approximately 7:30 PM State Police were called to a motorcycle crash on the Garfield Rd in Masardis. Tr. Saucier responded and learned the following through his crash investigation. 39-year-old Devin Stoltz of Masardis was traveling South on a Honda motorcycle owned by Taylor Condon of Ashland. Stoltz traveled around a corner and lost control of the motorcycle leaving the roadway and traveling into the ditch. The motorcycle struck an embankment and went airborne into some trees before coming to rest back in the roadway. Stoltz was not wearing a helmet and was transported from the scene by the Ashland Ambulance Service. Stoltz was later flown from TAMC to EMMC due to the severity of his injuries. Ashland Ambulance and Fire assisted at the scene.
