Maine Residents Told ‘Do Not Travel’ to These Locations
Maine is also known as 'Vacationland,' so we know a thing or two about vacations. Now, though, we’re being advised not to travel to certain places.
It’s funny, isn’t it? We’re so used to welcoming tourists and folks ‘from away’ to Maine, but now we’re hearing about places we should avoid ourselves. But hey, if people are steering clear of other destinations, maybe they’ll just bring those vacation dollars up here instead.
With that in mind, and with three international airports in Maine, we certainly have the access and ability to travel anywhere we like.
According to visit-maine.com, travelers can catch flights from Portland International Jetport (PWM) in southern Maine, Bangor International Airport (BGR) along the coast and in central Maine, or Presque Isle International Airport (PQI) up north in ‘The County.’
So, with that established, who exactly is warning Mainers not to travel to these specific places?
The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs provides travel advisories to help U.S. citizens make informed decisions when traveling internationally.
This list from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs categorizes countries into four advisory levels based on safety.
Those categories are Level 1 (Exercise Normal Precautions), Level 2 (Exercise Increased Caution), Level 3 (Reconsider Travel), and Level 4 (Do Not Travel). Each level reflects potential risks, including crime, civil unrest, health concerns, or natural disasters, allowing travelers to better assess their plans.
By regularly updating these advisories, the Bureau aims to keep travelers safe and aware of possible dangers abroad.
Well, with all that in place, keep scrolling to see the list of locations that Maine residents are being advised to avoid. What are your thoughts? We’d love to hear from you! Feel free to join the conversation by messaging us on the app.
