Maine Man Runs to Washington, DC From Maine To Raise Money for Charities

Gary Allen from Mount Desert Island plans to run from Maine to Washington, DC to raise money for several charities.

Allen, founder of the Mount Desert Island Marathon, has been an avid runner all his life. Between 1979 and 2011, Allen has ran in 20 Boston marathons, winning a number of medals. But this winter - Allen decided to set the bar high. He plans to run 700 miles to DC.

Allen hopes to run 40 to 50 miles per day and arrive in DC on Jan. 21 - just in time for President Obama’s second inaugural speech.

The funds raised will benefit The American Cancer Society, The Wounded Warriors Project, Sandy Hook Elementary.
