Maine Gov. LePage Calls Medicaid Expansion ‘Sinful’
KENNEBUNK, Maine (AP) — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is ratcheting up the rhetoric on Medicaid expansion, describing it as "sinful."
LePage made the remark in a visit to Kennebunk on Friday, a day after trading barbs with the Democratic leadership, saying they "don't know what they're doing" and "don't care about Maine."
House Speaker Mark Eves responded that "life-saving health care is not sinful." He also said LePage's "bad policies and erratic behavior," not Democrats, were the problem.
The York County Coast Star said the Governor talked to workers at the local water district, a bank and an insurance company before a town hall meeting.
LePage described the debate over Medicaid expansion as a "legacy battle" over the Affordable Care Act. Asked if there's hope, LePage responded, "The last hope is the November election."
