A recent study ranking the best cities for summer jobs in the country has a city in Maine listed near the very top!
It should come as no surprise that a city in our Pine Tree State ranks among the best in the country for summer jobs—we’re called ‘Vacationland’ for a reason, right? Every year, tons of new jobs open up across Maine to help wrangle the wave of tourists and folks ‘from away’ who make their way up here.
So, given all of that—how do we know which cities are better for summer jobs than others? Who’s making that call, and what criteria are being looked at?
To figure out the best places for summer jobs in 2025, WalletHub compared 182 U.S. cities based on two main categories: ‘Youth Job Market’ and ‘Social Environment & Affordability.’ They used 21 different metrics and combined them into a weighted average to rank each city based on how favorable it is for summer work.

Alright, now that we’ve covered that, which city in our Pine Tree State has been named in a recent report as one of the best in America for summer jobs?
According to WalletHub and their report highlighting ‘2025's Best and Worst Cities for Summer Jobs,’ one of the top cities in the entire country is our Portland—Portland, Maine—ranking 4th in the study.

Portland didn’t just place 4th overall in the ranking—it also scored 5th for ‘Youth Job Market’ and 11th for ‘Social Environment & Affordability.’
The only cities ranked higher were South Burlington, Vermont; Columbia, Maryland; and the top spot, Scottsdale, Arizona.
And there you have it! Shoutout to Portland for being named one of the absolute best cities in America for summer jobs in 2025.
