This is your official sign to take a candy detour.

Lovefood is a food website known for recipes, restaurant reviews, cooking guides, and nationwide “best of” lists.

We love a good list, so when Lovefood set out rank the best candy shops in the United States, we had to see what they picked for Maine.

If you’re driving through southern Maine, one of those slightly dangerous-but-fun stops is Yummies Candy & Nuts. It sits right on Route 1 in Kittery, just minutes from the outlet shopping area, and it’s basically impossible to miss once you’re nearby. From the outside it looks like a simple roadside shop, but inside it turns into a full-on candy overload experience.

The best part is, when you see the sign out front that says "10,000 lbs on display" you jump out of the car and make a mad dash to candy heaven. There is a reason they were picked as the #18 candy shop in the United States!

Think barrels of gummies, wall-to-wall chocolates, old-school nostalgic candy, and endless saltwater taffy. It’s the kind of place where you tell yourself you’re “just looking,” and then suddenly you’ve built a full bag of sweets you didn’t plan on buying. They also carry a big selection of nuts and specialty treats, it’s like a classic bulk candy and snack wonderland.

You’ll also find seasonal displays, boxed chocolates, and plenty of mix-and-match bins that make it easy to try a little bit of everything without committing to one giant bag. The whole place has a nostalgic, almost old-fashioned boardwalk candy vibe that feels very different from a convenience store candy aisle.

You can find them at 384 US Route 1, Kittery. They’re typically open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day, which makes it an easy stop whether you’re heading up the coast or coming back from the outlets. You can check details or plan ahead on their official site at Yummies Candy & Nuts
