Maine's largest state park gained national attention from a popular publication.

Media Feed has an article on the most beautiful state parks in the United States. The online magazine included just 15 parks from around the nation. Impressively, Maine's Baxter State Park was chosen for this exclusive list.

Located in Piscataquis County in North-Central Maine, Baxter State Park is a 200,000+ acre playground for outdoor enthusiasts. The park is known for its beautiful scenery, pristine waters, world-class hiking, perfect fishing spots, unique wildlife, and outstanding camping.

Baxter is also home to many of Maine's tallest peaks, including Mount Katahdin (the northern tip of the Appalachian Trail), Baxter and Hamlin Peaks, North and South Brother, Double Top, and many others. And many are easily connected by the park's trail system. It truly is a hiker's playground. And you can probably imagine how amazing those picturesque views of the park and Maine are from the peaks. It's simply awe-inspiring.

Here is a little from Media Feed on why it named Baxter one of America's most beautiful state parks.

...head inland and give Baxter State Park a peek. This is the home of Mount Katahdin, the end of the Appalachian Trail and the highest peak in the state at 5,267 feet. You’ll find 215 miles of trails in the park that spans over 20,000 acres. While less than half the size of Acadia, there are more than 300 campsites and a more secluded getaway.

As special as Baxter is, it's somehow still seemingly underrated. This is probably due to Acadia National Park getting so much attention, especially from tourists. However, I'm not complaining. I would absolutely hate seeing titanic-sized crowds at Baxter. Park officials are wise to limit the number of campers and day passes. It helps keep the park as authentic as possible.

Congrats to Baxter on the inclusion on this list. It's wonderful to see it getting deserved recognition. Baxter's beauty and undisturbed land is one of Maine's most treasured gifts.
