A man & woman from Presque Isle were trapped and rescued from their vehicle Friday night after crashing into a pole on Route 1 in Littleton. The man was later arrested for unlawful trafficking.

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office received the call around 8:45 pm Friday about an accident in the area of 2093 Route 1 in Littleton.

Sheriff Shawn Gillen said Deputy Ryan Johnston arrived on the scene, and with the help of the caller, freed 37-year-old Nathan Richards & 38-year-old Jessica Cheney from their 2012 Nissan Pathfinder.

Richards & Cheney had non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Houlton Regional Hospital.

Gillen said, “Excessive speed and impairment are believed to be the cause of the crash. Richards was medically cleared and then arrested for unlawful trafficking in schedule W drugs, after locating 30 grams of methamphetamine. Additional charges are pending further investigation.”
