Live ‘La La Land’ Stage Show Being Considered Following Golden Globes Sweep
Following its unprecedented seven-award win at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, the following should come as no surprise: In an attempt to leave no stone unturned, the musical movie La La Land may soon be developed into a live stage production.
“If we want to do a stage show, we can do a stage show,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We haven’t hit out full expansion,” he said, noting the movie will see a larger theatrical release on January 22 -- right around the time Oscars nominations will be announced -- and could potentially increase its already substantial base of devotees.
La La Land -- a musical dramedy set in Los Angeles that follows two Hollywood hopefuls who fall in love -- won big at the Golden Globes, earning awards for all seven categories in which it was nominated, including Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Original Score and Best Screenplay.
As such, La La Land beat the record previously held by One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Midnight Express. Both of those movies won six Golden Globes, while La La Land won seven, according to the LA Times.
