So, what if we just don't get to see the eclipse at all?

I'm not trying to jinx this event in any way, but I see people constantly asking where folks are headed to view the eclipse, or whether is safe for pets, or whether kids will have school that day, etc. But hardly anyone has touched on the idea that this whole thing could quite possibly be rained right out.

Maine has notoriously unpredictable weather. Heck, we had no snow all winter, and decided it should all come in the first week of spring. Laugh all you want, but you literally cannot count on Maine's weather for anything. You just make plans, cross your fingers, and hope for the best. It's always a crap-shoot.

When you look at the National Weather Service forecast through Sunday, you can see things don't really improve over the weekend. We get all that snow this week, and it kind of starts to improve. When you expand things a bit with the Accuweather forecast, Monday is looking likely to be cloudy with a 40% chance of rain.

Sunday and Tuesday look... ok. So it's possible the weather on either side will pull it out, and we have a halfway decent chance at viewing the eclipse. Let's hope it's not the case though. there's a lot of anticipated tourism, and it would be terrible to see that grind to a halt over the weather. Let's hope we don't get "Maine'd". The ironic part too, is that we may see our first 60+ degree day on Wednesday. But I'm sure we'll get screwed out of that somehow, too. Mother Nature hates us. It's our fate...
